d.s.murray quartet formed in November 1996. The project was put together by guitarist d.s. murray to perform his original compositions. The group draw on influences from Blue Note to Drum'n' bass, and use contemporary textures as a basis for improvisation.

The quartet have performed in a variety of venues across Scotland, the Old Fruitmarket and the Arches in Glasgow, The Lemon Tree , Aberdeen. They released a series of 12" singles with remixes by House and Hip-Hop producers. Their debut album, Home Movies CDOK 3011 is on the OK Jazz label of KRL.

d s murray quartet have received popular and critical acclaim for the raw, emotive nature of their live performances. They are equally at home in both conventional jazz venues and the contemporary club scene, and have a strong commitment to taking the music forward without losing sight of its history.
